Striving After Sufficiency (SASS)
SASS, affiliated with Church of the Rock, is one of three programs in Genesee County providing mentoring services for participants. The organization provides assistance with clothing, food, budgeting, education, locating community resources, abtaining quality child care, planning nutritious meals, and dealing with a new baby. SASS also provides training in basic life skills, job seeking skills, dressing for success, parenting, goal setting and building relationships.
4 Cs
4 Cs is the childcare network for Genesee County. A representative from 4 Cs attends general orientation on Mondays and provides a list of licensed childcare providers in the area.
Michigan State University (MSU) Extension
MSU Extension provides onsite nutrition and budgeting classes. Staff visit our site twice a week for an hour and a half. At the end of the class, the participants earn a certificate of completion.
Dress For Success
Dress For Success, a non-profit organization, helps provide professional, interview appropriate clothing to low-income women. If a participant becomes employed after being referred for interview clothing, she is eligible to recieve one additional outfit. Dress For Success also provides assistance with resume preperation and offers job seeking skills training for women who are not enrolled in Work First.
Genesee Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Academy
The Genesee CNA Academy is a newer partner. The Academy offers two and three week Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training programs. During the 75-hour course, participants prepare for the State of Michigan testing and are introduced to potential employers in the area.
Mass Transit Authority (MTA)
MTA has been awarded a contract by the State to provide one hundred rides per day to targeted Project Zero participants. Participants are transported on local, regional, and "Your Ride" routes.
Mott Adult High School
Mott Adult High School offers a variety of programs including GED, High School completion, CNA, and Cosmetology classes at many locations. The school also works with the Fast Break Program, an eight to ten week computer course through Mott Community College, which is free to low-income individuals with at least a 6th grade math and reading level. Students with lower scores are placed into the Step-Up Program run by Mott Adult High School. This is a four-week program that helps students get the basic skills necessary to complete Fast Break.
Baker College
Two training options are available through Baker College. The first allows participants to enroll in a traditional certificate or degree (Associate or Bachelor) program. The second option, Baker Academy, was developed between Baker College and the Genesee County Family Independence Agency (FIA). The first phase of Baker Academy includes Certified Nursing Assistant and Medical Assistant training. The second phase (Baker II) offers a ten-week course in Certified Nursing Assistant training. Participants are recruited for Baker Academy by FIA, and costs are covered by Work First.
Insight
Insight provides out patient drug treatment designed to address the emotional causes of addictive drug use.
Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA)
The YWCA works closely with women who are victims of domestic violence to provide them with a safe, secure, and confidential enviroment. YWCA also offers classes on self-esteem and anger management.
Faith Access to Community Economic Development (FACED)
FACED, a mentoring program, pairs participants with someone from the community to provide a positive role model and a basis for networking to solve life issues. FACED's mission is to provide services to meet comprehensive health needs - physical, mental, and spiritual - of low-income residents of Flint/Genesee County.
Odyssey House
Odyssey House is one of four drug rehabilitation centers with which Genesee Job Club works. Odyssey House also provides residential treatment for up to two years to individuals throughout the State. In additon to treating drug use, the program helps the individual develop a skill. Odyssey House allows children to stay with the parent throughout the treatment. Residents produce a quarterly newsletter.
Career Gear
Career Gear,a non-profit organization, provides professional interview appropriate clothing for low-income males. In return for services, participants must volunteer for five hours in the store. If a participant becomes employed after being referred for interview clothing, he is eligible to receive one additional outfit. Career Gear provides assistance with resume preparation and training in job seeking skills for women not enrolled in Work First.
Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) Head Start
Formerly known as GCCAA, GCCARD operates an infant and pre-school education-based daycare program in the same building that houses Genesee Job Club. A limited number of openings are available each year for children whose parents are in the Work First program.
Ross Medical
Ross Medical provides education and training for individuals who want to become Medical Assistants. Ross Medical is an approved vendor for Post Employment Training.
